S.O.S. "Spirit or Safety" Slip

These slips lets the people in charge know of a person doing good and nominates them for a Spirit Student Award or a Teacher Spirit Award. Also, the slips can be used to alert of any issues in the school that need immediate attention such as weapons in the school, bullying or drug use.

How it works is that each teacher receives S.O.S. slips to pass out to individual students. Each student should then fill out his or her sheet, making sure to point out that it is anonymous, and they DO NOT have to sign their names. Teachers will then introduce “Hero” stations to their classrooms and have each student drop their note into the Alert Box. We recommend checking the S.O.S. box at the following times: 1. Immediately after the assigned class does its Tip Drill or 2. Before the end of the school day. (Helps prevent after school fights). Be consistent and have it become a good habit to help raise school morale and head off any dangers.

Spirit Awards

The slips that are placed in the Alert Box in the Spirit Desk are gathered and awards are given to recognize the positive actions of students and teachers. Administration is encouraged to make this a special school-wide event. This not only celebrates and promotes good actions but also encourages other students to be more aware of opportunities of kindness and goodness.

Hero Emails

Inform parents in a newsletter or email about the new program at your school. Encourage them to be a part of it by letting them know that they too can participate. Then each week, send out a newsletter that highlights what happened. List the names of the Spirit Awards and what they did to earn them. Tell the parents about how many fights were stopped or any other bad behaviors that were addressed. This lets the parents know that you are vigilant and proactive in creating a safe and nurturing school campus.
