To create a safer, more pleasant environment for all students, teachers and staff focused on the prevention of unwanted behavior.

Hero In The Hallway
Action Plan

Eight Easy Steps to Hero Implementation

step1.png

Place main entrance model and hall monitor station in strategic locations throughout your building.

step2.png

Meet with key personnel (i.e. teachers, resource officer, or parent patrol) and define the proper flow of information from tips gathered from alert boxes at various locations.

step3.png

Determine school ‘Code of Conduct’ for all students and have it posted in all classrooms and hallways. Include consequences for not abiding by the rules.

step4.png

Introduce ‘Hero’ to all teachers. Show them where the ‘Alert Box’ is and explain its use. Explain the ‘Safety Drill’ procedure noted in Step Five.

step5.png

Give each teacher ‘Safety Drill’ Tip Sheets to pass out to individual students. Each student should then fill out his or her sheet, making sure to point out that it is anonymous, and they DO NOT have to sign their names. Teachers will then introduce ‘Hero’ stations to their classrooms and have each student drop their note in to the Alert Box. Teachers should then emphasize the fact that from this day forward, there will be no bullying, no drugs or weapons in the school. This will no longer be tolerated. Tip drills will be done weekly, so that nothing will go unchecked for too long. The Alert Box can be used at any time, by anyone, including students, teachers, parents and people in the community. Make children aware of their actions at all times.

step6.png

Introduce Hero to parents. Inform parents in a newsletter or email about the new member of your school. Let them know what you expect of each and every child who attends your school. Please remember to make clear that this is not tattling. It is taking responsibility, which will make the school environment a safer place to be.

step7.png

Consistently state in the morning announcements that everyone’s safety is important to you. Clearly define that safety is a concern and the responsibility of everyone, including each and every student. Teasing and bullying in any form is not allowed in school.

step8.png

The most important step of all! If a note is dropped, follow through. It means the difference between success and failure. Students must see that you mean business or they will not do what you ask of them. Also, remember to reward your student heroes when they do good!

Consistency, Consequences, Conduct and Follow-Through!
